July 3, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release
Fábio's late game-winning goal helped the New York Red Bulls (5-5-1, 16 pts) take down Orlando City (6-2-3, 21 points), 2-1 on Saturday night at Exploria Stadium.
New York won its first match away from Red Bull Arena in 2021. The road win also gave head coach Gerhard Struber his first MLS road win with New York.
The Red Bulls have delivered both of Orlando City's losses this season by a 2-1 score line.
New York earned four of the possible nine points during their three-match road trip to move into a three-way tie of fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
New York opened the scoring as Patryk Klimala fed Cristian Cásseres Jr at the top of the box. Cásseres took a touch, cut to his left and finished to the far post for the early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.
Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Coronel preserved the 1-0 lead in the first half as he recorded his first career MLS penalty kick save just before the end of the half.
Following a turnover in New York's end, Orlando City's Chris Mueller received the ball inside the box and finished to the far post for the equalizer in the 59th minute.
With New York in transition, Dru Yearwood fed the ball to Klimala at the top of the box. Klimala controlled the ball and snuck a pass towards net for Fábio, who finished for the game winner in the 79th minute.
Cásseres Jr. recorded his fourth goal of the season to move into a tie for the team lead with Caden Clark. The Venezuelan national team midfielder has tallied goals in back-to-back matches.
Fábio recorded his second MLS regular-season goal, both of which have been game winners. The Brazilian forward also recorded his sixth assist of the season, which ranks second among MLS players.
Klimala recorded assists on both of New York's goals to raise his season total to four. It was his first multi-assist match of the season and New York's third match with a Red Bulls player tallying two assists or more in a game.
The Polish striker has recorded a goal or an assist in four of his five starts this year.
Yearwood tallied his first MLS assist, which was also a game-winning assist.
Coronel finished the match with five saves on six chances to earn his fifth win in net. The Brazilian goalkeeper also became the 10th different Red Bulls goalie to tally a penalty kick save during league play.
Following Saturday's match, New York will begin a two-match homestand starting with the Philadelphia Union on Thursday, June 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on MSG and MSG GO and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
