New York City FC News Release
NEW YORK, N.Y. - New York City FC today announced that midfielder Tony Rocha has agreed to a new contract with the Club.
NYCFC acquired Rocha in December 2018 from Orlando City SC in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
The Belize international appeared in 17 regular season matches in 2019 while making one appearance in the U.S. Open Cup. Rocha had two assists across all competitions.
He made his international debut for Belize in September against Grenada during the Concacaf Nations League.
Rocha said: "My first season at New York City FC was all that I expected and more. Changing teams is never easy, but my teammates couldn't have made it easier on me. They welcomed me with open arms from the beginning.
"The professionalism throughout the Club speaks volumes of the culture that has been built here and I'm very excited to continue my career with NYCFC and sign a new contract."
The 26-year old showed his valuable versatility throughout the season in multiple positions in the midfield and defense.
NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee said: "We're really pleased that Tony has signed a new contract with the Club which is well deserved after his performances last season. Tony proved to be a valuable member of our team, playing multiple positions across the season and became an important part of our locker room. We're excited for Tony to continue his development at NYCFC and delighted he'll be with us moving forward."
Prior to joining NYCFC, Rocha played for Orlando City SC and also had stints in the United Soccer League (USL) with Orlando City B, Saint Louis FC and the Austin Aztex.
He also played collegiately for the University of Tulsa.
Rocha said: "There were a lot of highs this past season so I can look back and say it was a successful year, but we deserved so much more. I'm excited to get started back up in the preseason and look forward to winning a trophy for NYCFC. This city and our fans deserve it."
