New York Red Bulls News Release
The New York Red Bulls (5-5-2, 17 pts) and the Philadelphia Union (5-3-5, 20 pts) battled to a 1-1 draw in a rainy match Thursday evening at Red Bull Arena.
The match was delayed by 32 minutes at the start due to inclement weather around the area.
The Union were reduced to 10-men in the 57th minute as goalkeeper Matt Freese was sent off for a foul against Wiki Carmona. Patryk Klimala stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty kick.
The Union pulled level in the 85th minute, as Sergio Santos headed in a cross from the right flank by Olivier Mbaizo.
The Red Bulls extended their home unbeaten streak to five matches for the first time since 2019, which extended from May 19 to July 14.
Klimala has recorded a goal or an assist in all three matches he has played at Red Bull Arena and extended his current points streak to two matches.
The Polish striker scored New York's first penalty kick since September 23, 2020, against Inter Miami CF.
Defender Mandela Egbo made his season debut for the Red Bulls, replacing Amro Tarek in the 78th minute. Egbo played in nine matches with six starts last season, tallying a goal and an assist on the year.
Midfielder Sean Davis made his 150th MLS regular season appearance with the club.
New York recorded their first point against the Philadelphia Union since September 22, 2019.
Following Thursday's match, New York will conclude its two match homestand on Saturday, July 17, when they host Inter Miami. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on MSG and MSG GO and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
