Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League hit the ice Wednesday night when they travel to Niagara to take on the IceDogs in a New Year's Eve contest beginning at 7 p.m.

The game can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.

The Otters enter the game coming off a come-from-behind 5-4 shootout win over the Brampton Battalion on Sunday afternoon. Ryan O'Reilly scored the shootout winner after registering three assists in regulation time to help the Otters recover from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits. Andrew Yogan collected his first career hat trick in the game and supplied a shootout goal while Zack Torquato rounded out the Otters offense with a shorthanded tally.

Shane Owen posted his third straight victory in place of starter Jaroslav Janus, who remains with Team Slovakia at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa. Owen made 32 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped three out of four in the shootout.

The win marked the Otters third straight as they improved to 17-17-2-0 on the season. The victory also ended an Otters three-game road-losing streak.

The IceDogs (12-17-4-4) hit the ice Wednesday night for the first time since closing out the opening half of the season with a 4-3 home ice loss to the Sudbury Wolves on December 19th. The setback marked the sixth straight for Niagara and their third straight on home ice.

Matthew Sisca leads the IceDogs in scoring with 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points in 36 games. Andrew Agozzino is the team's top goal-scorer with 19 in 36 games while Drew Schiestel leads the club in assists with 28 in 32 games.

Niagara will be missing three players and their Head Coach on Wednesday. All-Star defenseman and St. Louis Blues first rounder Alex Pietrangelo is with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships while forward Freddie Hamilton, goaltender Mark Visentin and Head Coach Mario Cicchillo are with the Ontario Team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in British Columbia.

The game will mark the third of six between the two teams this season. The Otters captured the first two games played in October.

The next Otters home games take place Friday and Saturday at the Tullio Arena when the Battalion and Kitchener Rangers visit for 7 p.m. starts respectively. Tickets for the games are available at all Erie-area Ticketmaster locations, the Civic Center Box Office, on line at www.ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
