New Soccer Mini-Pitch to be Unveiled at Petworth Recreation Center

August 3, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
D.C. United News Release

D.C. United, D.C. Parks & Recreation, DC SCORES, Musco Sports Lighting, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation will unveil a new soccer court, called a mini-pitch, at Petworth Recreation Center on Aug. 6. The new soccer play space will increase access to the world's game for more D.C. children and families and lighting at the pitch will ensure that the entire community can use the play space past daylight hours.

The official dedication ceremony will be followed by an inaugural scrimmage with DC SCORES players on the new pitch. D.C. United players will serve as celebrity coaches for the match. The pitch was funded by Musco Sports Lighting in honor of the opening of Audi Field last month. Musco Sports Lighting is the official lighting provider at the venue.

The new mini-pitch marks the latest development in the U.S. Soccer Foundation's It's Everyone's Game national movement to ensure children in underserved communities can enjoy the health and youth development benefits of the game. The Foundation's goal is to engage one million children annually in Soccer for Success by 2026 and build 1,000 new safe places to play. Musco Lighting is a national partner of the movement.
