Alberth Elis to Make MLS All-Star Debut Tonight

August 3, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo forward Alberth Elis will make his debut in the MLS All-Star Game tonight in Atlanta. The annual exhibition match will feature the best in Major League Soccer taking on seven-time defending Italian champions Juventus at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CDT.

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: MLS All Stars vs. Juventus

TIME: 6:30 p.m. CDT

TV: ESPN

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU WATCH TONIGHT'S ALL-STAR GAME:

1. ELIS HAS BEEN STELLAR - Elis earned his All-Star nod through outstanding play over the first half of the league season. With a combined 17 goals and assists, he is tied for seventh-most in the league. He ranks in the league's top three in seven different offensive categories, and he's one of just three players (along with Montreal's Ignacio Piatti and Minnesota's Darwin Quintero) to rank in the top 10 in both goals and assists.

2. A LEGENDARY OPPONENT - The All-Stars will have their hands full tonight as they take on one of the most successful clubs in the world. Juventus claimed their seventh consecutive Serie A championship last season, the 34th in the club's storied history. Italy's oldest professional club, The Old Lady boasts the largest fan base in Italy and one of the largest in the world and has a roster loaded with stars from Italy and around the world, including five-time Ballon d'Or (World Player of the Year) winner Cristiano Ronaldo and 2018 World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi from France.

3. DYNAMO HOST RIVALS ON SATURDAY - The Dynamo are back at home Saturday night when their old rivals Sporting Kansas City visit BBVA Compass Stadium at 8 p.m. CDT. Houston and Sporting KC have built a rivalry based on several high-stakes matchups over the years, as the Dynamo eliminated Sporting from the playoffs in 2007, 2011 and 2012 before Sporting returned the favor in 2013. The Dynamo ended Sporting's season in the first round of the playoffs a year ago; and the teams have taken turns eliminating one another from the U.S. Open Cup over the last four years, with Houston hammering KC 4-2 in the Quarterfinal of this year's tournament last month.

The team is off tonight for the All-Star Game, but returns to training on Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Houston Sports Park as they make final preparations for Saturday's match. Players will be available at 5 p.m. each day, and head coach Wilmer Cabrera will speak around 6:30 before the team takes the field.
