New Orleans VooDoo enjoy strong showing on field, on television

While the New Orleans VooDoo opened up their inaugural contest in Philadelphia on February 8 with a 42-34 victory, the team also entertained a successful following with fans in the New Orleans area as well as nationally. Sunday's live telecast of the VooDoo - Philadelphia Soul contest scored an 8 overnight rating/14 share on WDSU Channel 6 (NBC).

Locally, the VooDoo's 8 rating represented the highest rated television program during its time period of 2-5 p.m., as well as being the highest rated programming airing from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Nationally, New Orleans' viewership level led all 55-metered markets, while NBC's AFL coverage posted a 2.5 rating nationally.

The VooDoo game's rating exceeded network television broadcast of the NBA, NHL, NCAA men's college basketball, PGA golf and NASCAR in the New Orleans market. Among sporting events on Sunday, the VooDoo's local viewership was only exceeded by the broadcast of the NFL Pro Bowl, which achieved an 8.4 rating.

The VooDoo will return to the NBC airwaves on Saturday, February 14, when they face the Indiana Firebirds at 2 p.m. in the team's inaugural home opener at the New Orleans Arena. The broadcast will be handled by Eli Gold, Charles Davis and Rich Lenz.

The VooDoo's regular-season home schedule includes games against: Indiana, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Columbus, Orlando, Georgia and Austin. Season-ticket plans begin for as low as $88 per seat. There are numerous seating options in all price ranges.
