May 18, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United and New Mexico 811 are thrilled to announce the fourth round of additions to the U-23 roster in the team's history. Defender Paolo Vela, and midfielders Dane Gallegos and Andres Robles - all Albuquerque-natives - join the inaugural roster to bring the number of announced players to twelve ahead of the inaugural season, with more announcements yet to come.
"Paolo, Dane and Andres have been key figures on and off the pitch for the United Academy," said United Academy and U-23 Head Coach Luke Sanford. "Their growth and leadership have been phenomenal to watch. They have been crucial parts of the Academy's success, and we can't wait to see that growth continue at the USL League Two level."
Vela was the third signing in the history of the New Mexico United Academy in 2021. He has served as the club's captain and emotional leader, guiding them to third place in the entire nation in their inaugural year. Vela attends Bosque School, and - prior to joining United - played club soccer at Pateadores New Mexico.
Gallegos was the eighth signing in the history of the New Mexico United Academy in 2021, and has dominated the midfield for United Academy since joining the club. Gallegos attends Sandia Prep and played club soccer with Rio Rapids, prior to joining the United Academy. He scored the winning goal in the state cup final in 2019.
Robles was the tenth signing in the history of the New Mexico United Academy in 2021, and the fourth Academy contract signing in club history, giving him the opportunity to play and work with the New Mexico United First Team. He attends high school at Albuquerque High, where he won a state title. He played club soccer for Guadalajara and NM Rush.
United U-23 will compete in the Mountain Division in the 2022 season.
