May 18, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
Miami, Fla. - The Miami Football Club picked up a point at home against an in-form Detroit City FC side. Forward Adonijah Reid scored the equalizer in the final play of the match.
Starting XI vs. Detroit City FC
Head coach Anthony Pulis made some modifications ahead of the game against Detroit City. Miami's biggest change came in shape, moving from a 4-2-2-2 to a 5-2-3.
Defender Junior Palacios, winger Pierre da Silva and wingback Othello Bah started this time around. Reggae Boyz Romeo Parkes and Lamar Walker made the bench, with Italy's Luca Antonelli missing the game.
Right-back Mark Segbers made his 100th USL Championship appearance.
First Half Breakdown
Miami FC created multiple chances early in the game. However, Detroit City FC found the back of the net after a direct counterattack. Forward Antoine Hoppenot, who came into the match after notching two assists against Loudoun United over the weekend, beat goalkeeper Connor Sparrow to his second post.
MFC kept fighting on throughout the first 45 minutes but was unable to equalize before the halftime.
Second Half Breakdown
The Orange and Blue continued its chase for the equalizer as soon as the whistle for the second half was blown.
Bah struck a ball from a wide angle in the 50th minute. Unfortunately for the Liberian and MFC, the ball deflected off the crossbar back into play.
Four substitutions unfolded in a span of ten minutes - 62â²-71â². Reid, Parkes, winger Christian Sorto and right-back Sean McFarlane.
Reid took on three defenders and unleashed a shot to the second post in the 75th minute. Detroit goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher got down low to his right and saved it.
Nonetheless, Reid had the last laugh. The 22-year-old Canadian received a pass from Parkes inside the area, cut and sliced a defender and tucked the ball into the goal with the last kick of the game.
