New Mexico Break Skid against Sacramento Republic FC
July 24, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
(SACRAMENTO, California) It took 89 minutes, but New Mexico United broke a USL Championship winless streak that dated back to the 25th of May. United defeated Sacramento Republic FC, 1:2, on Wednesday, 7/24.
In the 10th minute, United's Chris Wehan found room on the left side. Driving forward, he finished his chance methodically to put his side up one. Sacramento found their rhythm, and controlled 54% of possession in the first half. Only one of their four first half shots tested New Mexico's keeper, Cody Mizell, and none found the net. Troy Lesesne's side went into the locker room leading.
Sam Werner equalized for Sacramento in the 75' and a positive result for New Mexico seemed sketchy, until Daniel Bruce stepped up and struck an incredible ball into the net in the dying minutes of the match. His 89th minute rocket proved to be the game winner, as United picked up their first three points since May.
Up Next: United will be back in "The Lab" (Isotopes Park) for a July 31 showdown with rivals El Paso Locomotive FC.
