Little Falls, NJ – Four consecutive innings of scoring were too much for Quebec, as the Jackals defeated them, 7-2.

In the bottom of the second, Chris Rowan hit a sacrifice fly into deep right field that scored Wilton Veras. It gave New Jersey an early 1-0 advantage.

They would pad their lead in the next inning. With Craig Conway on first, Zack Smithlin bunted for a single, but the throw by third baseman Eddie Lantigua was wide of the bag, allowing Conway to score, and Smithlin to advance to third. The next batter Kevin Grijak grounded out, allowing Smithlin to score. Through three, the Jackals held a 3-0 lead.

New Jersey would again notch runs in the bottom of the fourth. RBI singles by Scott Goodman and Conway put the Jackals up by five.

For the fourth straight inning, the Jackals put runs up on the scoreboard. RBI singles by Veras and Rowan made it 7-0, New Jersey.

In the top of the sixth, Quebec would finally break through on the scoreboard. A two RBI single by Shane Hopper, cut the New Jersey lead to five runs, but that would be all.

Starter Joel Bennett gave up two earned runs for the Jackals, in seven innings of work. Bennett scattered four hits, walked one, and fanned eight. It was his fourth victory of the season.

Keith Dunn was lit up by New Jersey. Dunn only lasted four and a third innings of work. He gave up seven runs, four of them earned, on twelve hits. He suffered only his second loss of 2004.

For New Jersey, Wilton Veras went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Zack Smithlin was also 2-4 with two runs scored.

Shane Hopper was 1-4 with two RBI for Quebec.

New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, Jackals' starting pitcher Aaron Myers was named the Rawlings Northeast League Player of the Month. Myers went 4-1 in the month of July, with a 1.06 ERA. In 34 innings of work, Myers scattered 29 hits while striking out 38. OBLITERATE Also during the month, Myers tossed a complete game, seven inning shutout of the Elmira Pioneers, in which he struck out eleven batters. At the time of the award, Myers was second in the Northeast League in strikeouts with 75.

The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium. The first game will begin in the bottom of the third, and will go a full nine innings. The second contest will be seven innings

The New Jersey Jackals will be holding its 2nd annual NJ PETS Dog Days of Summer on Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Yogi Berra Stadium. It is an opportunity to bring your dog to the ballpark, participate in free giveaways, get portraits, and receive interesting literature on dog grooming provided by NJ PETS, Best Friend's Photography, and Mike's Feed Farm. The ballgame is scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m., but those who arrive by 4:00 p.m. will have the opportunity to take their dog onto the field and participate in a pet tricks contest.

The Jackals will also be holding a blood drive at Yogi Berra Stadium, on Tuesday, August 17, 2004. A Bloodmobile will be located at the ballpark. Playoff tickets are currently on sale. The Jackals have already clinched a spot, after winning the first half South Division Championship. Their opponent is yet to be determined. The ballclub will be playing at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday September 9, 2004. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. Box seats are $11.00 and reserved seats are $9.00. Lawn seats are priced at $6.00, but will only be sold if both box and reserved seats are sold out. No discounts or coupons will be accepted during the playoffs.
