North Shore Spirit News Release
Lynn, MA â In front of a crowd of 2,877 on Friday the 13th, the North Shore Spirit defeated the New Haven County Cutters 15-9 in game two of the four game series at the New Fraser Field.
The Spirit jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Lucas Taylor and Nelson Teilon led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and a Vic Davilla fielder's choice advanced Taylor to third. A Frank Charles sacrifice fly plated Taylor, putting the Spirit on the board. Davilla moved to second on a Joe Hastings walk and Travis Oglesby drove home Davilla with a leftfield single to lead 2-0.
The County Cutters picked up one run in the second thanks to an Aaron Fera double and Adam Shorsher single. The Spirit retaliated with a single run in the bottom of the inning after a Tanner Wootan double and RBI single from Taylor, giving the Spirit a 3-1 advantage.
New Haven big man Jimmy Hurst blasted a two-run shot deep over the centerfield wall to tie the score at three in the top of the third. However, it was deja vu in the bottom of the inning when Travis Oglesby hit a two-run homer, his 11th of the year, to put the Spirit on top 5-3.
In even more back and fourth action, the County Cutters would tack on three runs in the fourth off Spirit starter Tim Hart. Jeff Brooks and PJ Johnston both doubled in runs for New Haven. The Spirit also scored three runs in the fourth, courtesy of three singles, two walks and a double. Oglesby, Wootan and Brian Macchi all picked up RBIs in the eventful inning.
In inning five, New Haven added two runs and North Shore one. Jimmy Hurst hit his second blast of the night in the sixth for the County Cutters to close in on the Spirit. However, with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Yuri Sanchez hit his league leading ninth triple to score Macchi and Wooton.
Then the skies opened up and the Spirit had a one hour and 20 minute rain delay.
In the seventh, the Spirit tacked on two additional runs to take a 15-9 lead and never looked back.
Lucas Taylor finished 4-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Travis Oglesby was 3-4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Jeff Dixon (1-0) got the win for the Spirit in his first appearance of the season. Ryan Bonesio (3-5) picked up the loss for New Haven.
