New Jersey Sweep Tornadoes

Worcester Tornadoes News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ--- Another exciting game at Yogi Berra Stadium and unfortunately another time the Tornadoes come up short against the Jackals, this time 6-5.

In a game that was sloppy early on, both starters gave exemplary efforts in their own right. Both pitched into the sixth inning giving up five runs total with only three of those being earned. Nick Conway had the ball for Worcester in a game that was scheduled to be a Zach Zuercher start and had his longest outing of the season (5.2 IP). Isaac Pavlik for NJ received a no decision, but equaled a season high in strikeouts with seven.

Alex Pena notched his fourth homerun of the season in the fourth to tie the game up at two, and Vinny Pennell walked in from third after his second triple of the night in a two run fourth to take the lead. Worcester added to their lead with one in the sixth, but the pesky Jackals plated three in the bottom half with the help of Greg Lemon's first error with Worcester and Conway plunking a batter on a 0-2 pitch.

Worcester closer Anothony Sullivan (1-3) would take on NJ setup man Seth Overbey and closer Rusty Tucker (5-2) head to head in the ninth and tenth and eventually pick up the loss. After a one-two-three ninth, Timo Perez just missed a homer off of the right field wall and then scored on an RBI game winning single to left from Jerod Edmonson.

For the last regular season series of the season, the Tornadoes will face in-state foe Brockton for four games. Chris Farley (5-3) will try to end the three game losing streak for Worcester at 7:05.
