New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - On Tuesday night Jackals left fielder Jerod Edmondson watched from the on-deck circle as teammate first baseman Myron Leslie ripped a two-run single down the third base line that gave New Jersey a walk off win over the Worcester Tornadoes in ten innings. On Thursday night, Edmondson decided it was his turn. With two men on base and one out in the bottom of the tenth inning, the New York native blooped a single to left field that scored center fielder Timo Perez, giving New Jersey a 6-5 victory over Worcester at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The victory was the sixth of the season for New Jersey in extra innings and was the third time this season they had defeated the Tornadoes in walk off fashion at home.
Early on it looked as though Worcester was going to stop their three-game skid and avoid being swept by the Jackals as they carried a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. After the Jackals got two runs in the bottom of third on an RBI-triple from designated hitter Quinn Stewart and an RBI-groundout by Perez, the Tornadoes plated five unanswered runs.
In the fourth, Worcester designated hitter Alex Pena launched a two-run home run to right field off of New Jersey starter Isaac Pavlik - just the second long ball allowed by the left-hander this season. In the fifth, Worcester scored two more on an RBI-single from center fielder Lucas Taylor and then a subsequent throwing error moments later by Jackals second baseman Marcus Sanders that allowed Taylor to score. In the top of the sixth, a stolen base by third baseman Jeff LaHair coupled with throwing errors by New Jersey catcher Matt Lauderdale and Sanders on the same play, allowed the fifth and final run for Worcester to score.
New Jersey answered quickly; tying the game up with three runs in the bottom half of the inning off Worcester starter Nick Conway. After shortstop Mike DeJesus was hit by a pitch, Perez followed with an RBI-triple to cut the deficit to a pair of runs. The next batter, Leslie, hit a groundball to second that was thrown away by Worcester second baseman Greg Lemon, allowing Perez to score and moved Leslie to second before Edmondson brought him home with an RBI-double.
The score would stay tied until the final play of the game with Stuart Pomeranz, Romas Hicks, Seth Overbey and Rusty Tucker combining to pitch four scoreless innings to help set up Edmondson's game winner. Tucker (4-2) earned the win in relief, pitching one-third of an inning and Worcester closer Anthony Sullivan (1-2) suffered the defeat in release as well.
Up next the Jackals will hit the road for Quebec for their final regular season series against the host Capitales. Starters have not yet been named for the contest which will begin at 7:05 p.m. Joey Whelan will have the live call of the game at www.jackals.com with the pre-game show starting 10 minutes prior.
