Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The New Jersey Jackals continued to dominate the Worcester Tornadoes Monday night, as they won the first game of the series 18-5.

The Jackals have taken six of the seven games they have played against the Worcester team. Tonight was more in spectacular fashion, sending thirteen men to the plate and scoring 9 runs.

Criag Clark shined on the mound, picking up his fifth win in his tenth start of the season. The New Jersey Southpaw went six innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out three and walking one.

Conner Holse got tagged with his second loss of 2012, giving up five earned runs (six total) on twelve hits. Sean Keeler, Mike Mullen, and Eric Katzman didn't provide much relief, allowing twelve runs in the eighth and ninth, although only six of them were earned for the team.

The Jackals scored twice as many runs in the seventh and eighth innings as they did up to that point, scoring six runs before the nine run seventh and the three run eighth. The New Jersey team also only had three scoreless frames on offense, not scoring in the second, the sixth, and the ninth.

Angel Berroa lead the charge, going unretired in the game. The former Major League Rookie of the Year finished 5-for-5 with four runs, an RBI and three walks.

The two Nicks for the Jackals also packed up their middle infielder as well. Nick Giarraputo finished 3-for-6, hitting two doubles and a grand slam, collecting six RBI as well. Nick Salotti, following Giarraputo in the batting order, finished 4-for-6 with a pair of runs and four RBI.

Chris Torres and Alex Nunez lead the offensive against the Jackals. Chris Torres collected three hits out of the number three spot in the lineup, while Alex Nunez drove in three runs out of the number five spot.

Despite the loss, the Tornadoes grabbed sole possession of fourth place. The New Jersey Jackals meanwhile kept pace with the Capitales and remain five games behind the Quebec team in the Can-Am standings.

The Jackals and Tornadoes but heads tomorrow, with Mike Gedman getting the ball at the 7:05 start time on Tuesday. Steve Fox will start on the mound for the New Jersey Jackals, bringing with him his 9-1 record.
