New England to face Colorado

September 16, 2008 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - With more than a week between matches for the first time in two months, a rested New England Revolution side travels west to visit the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. TV38 (and Cox 3 in Rhode Island) will televise the game live beginning at 9 p.m. ET, while radio listeners can tune into the WEEI Radio Network.

The Revs (12-7-5, 41 pts.) pulled within three points of first-place Columbus with a 4-0 win over Chivas USA last Thursday night at Gillette Stadium, as Steve Ralston's one-goal, two-assist performance earned MLS Player of the Week honors. Colorado (9-12-3, 30 pts.) has won two straight - both by shutout - and has risen into a tie with Chivas USA for the third and final automatic playoff berth in the Western Conference, while the Rapids are just one point behind second-place Real Salt Lake with six games remaining.

Saturday night's match is the second and final meeting of the 2008 regular season between the Revs and Rapids, and the only one at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Colorado won the first meeting, 1-0, on April 12 at Gillette Stadium, despite being out-shot by New England, 17-4.

Of all the road trips in Major League Soccer, the visits to Colorado have historically been the worst for the Revs in terms of results. New England is 3-11-1 all-time in Colorado for a winning percentage of .233 - the club's worst road winning percentage against any team currently in the league. The Revolution is hoping that a change of scenery will alter the club's fortunes, as the Rapids moved into Dick's Sporting Goods Park last season; however, the Revs' first trip to DSG Park was no different, as Colorado earned a 3-0 victory on Aug. 16 of last season.
