The Revolution are unbeaten in five straight games and have registered results in their last three encounters with Sporting Kansas City, with two wins and one draw since 2018. New England most recently played against the Western Conference side on June 12, 2022, when Gustavo Bou and Emmanuel Boateng each netted a goal to lead the Revolution to a 2-1 victory at Children's Mercy Park in goalkeeper Djordje Petrović's MLS debut. Saturday night's contest marks Kansas City's first visit to Foxborough since April 28, 2018, when the Revolution collected a 1-0 shutout win. Head Coach Peter Vermes' club remains in search of its first victory of the 2023 campaign, with a struggling attack that has failed to score in its last three games. Kansas City, which fell to San Jose by a 3-0 margin while playing with 10 men last weekend, has netted a league-low two goals this season.
New England rose to first place in the Eastern Conference after collecting points for the seventh time in eight matches last Saturday, as the Revolution battled to a 1-1 draw against the Columbus Crew in Ohio. Scoreless after the first half, New England grabbed a 1-0 lead via own goal in the 58th minute before the hosts netted the equalizer just seconds before the final whistle. The Revolution played down a man for the last 25 minutes of the contest, after Dylan Borrero was shown a red card. The 21-year-old winger will miss Saturday's match as he serves his one-game suspension. Forward Giacomo Vrioni paced New England's attack with four shots, including two on target, in his second start of the 2023 campaign. With Gustavo Bou sidelined due to a minor leg injury, Homegrown Player Esmir Bajraktarevic, 18, suited up for his second start of the season.
New England's 17 points this season are tied with FC Cincinnati for most in the east and one behind St. Louis CITY SC for the MLS lead. The Revolution are 3-0-2 in five matches since registering their lone loss of the season on March 12 at Los Angeles FC. New England's attack remains among league leaders in goals (6th - 13), shots on target (6th - 41), and assists (T-7th - 13). Defensively, the team's seven goals conceded are tied for the third fewest in the league. New England has allowed just one goal in its first four home games this season.
Carles Gil is poised to make his 100th MLS regular season start, and his 50th at Gillette Stadium, on Saturday. The Spanish midfielder owns two goals and two assists in three home games this season, while he has reached the scoresheet in three of his last four games overall. In the back, Djordje Petrović will look to add to his 11 clean sheets since making his MLS debut last year against Kansas City, the most in MLS during that span. Newly acquired defender Ben Sweat, who joined the club this week after playing for SKC earlier in the year, could make his Revolution debut after arriving in Foxborough this week.
