New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution Academy Under-17 team will compete in the Copa Elite International 2022 from August 6-14 in Bogota, Colombia. New England is one of 10 Academy programs from around the world to qualify and compete in the event.
The Revolution Academy will send players from the 2006 age group, now competing at the Under-17 level, to South America this summer. This same age group advanced to the MLS NEXT Cup Semifinals last year in the U-15 division under the guidance of then-head coach Shalrie Joseph. The Revolution's 2006 age group also won the second-annual International Champions Cup Futures Tournament in Bradenton, Fla in December 2019 at the U-14 level.
The Copa Elite International Tournament is an Under-17 tournament that seeks to offer real opportunities to athletes to get closer to professional soccer. Ten Academy teams from around the world will participate in the eight-day competition, which features four zone champions and two national guest clubs from Colombia along with four international guest clubs, including New England and Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. More information on this year's Copa Elite International can be found here.
The Revolution Academy is in the midst of its MLS NEXT spring season, which kicked off on March 13 and concludes in June with the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs in Frisco, Texas.
