FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - All four New England Revolution Academy teams were in action last weekend, as the U-15s, U-17s, and U-19s took part in the 2023 MLS NEXT Flex Tournament in Boyds, Maryland while the U-14s headed to Newton, Massachusetts to take on Valeo FC.
The U-15s, U-17s, and U-19s each went undefeated at the Maryland SoccerPlex to all earn qualification to the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs taking place June 17-25 at Toyota Soccer Center and MoneyGram Soccer Park in Dallas-Fort Worth.
The U-19s will enter the tournament looking to defend their 2022 MLS NEXT Cup title after defeating Shattuck-St. Mary's, Real JFC, and Strikers FC last week. Felipe Vieira De Andrade (2004 - Westborough, Mass.) tallied two consecutive game-winners at the tournament, capping off his team's first win in the 85th minute and securing their second victory in the 89th minute. Ezra Widman (2005 - New York, N.Y.) scored twice in the tournament as Jason Zacarias (2004 - Billerica, Mass.), Steban Lopera (2005 - Revere, Mass.), and Alex Parvu (2005 - Cumberland, R.I.) all contributed to the scoresheet with goalkeeper Ryan Carney (2006 - Dunstable, Mass.) earning three straight starts in net.
The U-17s punched their ticket to Dallas after defeating FC Delco, Chula Vista FC, and Weston FC in Maryland. Olger Escobar (2006 - Malden, Mass.) recorded a team-leading three goals in the tournament as Peyton Miller (2007 - Unionville, Conn.) and Eric Martinez (2006 - Perris, Calif.) both tallied twice. Cristiano Oliveira (2008 - Somerville, Mass.) and Edwin Flores (2007 - Wilmington, D.E.) rounded out the U-17 goal scorers while Owen Beninga (2007 - Jackson, W.Y.) started all three matches with Marshall Nason Martin (2007 - Norwood, Mass.) subbing into the team's second match to close out the 3-2 victory over Chula Vista FC.
The U-15s went 2-0-1 in the tournament, notching two wins vs. Players Development Academy and RSL Arizona. They closed out the tournament with a scoreless draw against Southern Soccer Academy where the U-15s won the shootout 4-3 to secure their spot in the playoffs. Cliff-Grova Rwabira (2008 - Portland, M.E.) and Grant Emerhi (2008 - Mansfield, Mass.) each recorded braces in the tournament while Cristiano Carlos (2008 - Chicopee, Mass.), Tommy Tsouros (2008 - Bow, N.H.), and Mesud Ramic (2008 - Weare, N.H.) also each tallied. Goalkeeper Sean Cory (2008 - Wrentham, Mass.) started all three matches with Reinner Fidelis (2009 - Peabody, Mass.) subbing in to secure the shootout victory and his team's spot in the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup playoffs.
Back in Massachusetts, the U-14s earned a 3-2 victory over Valeo FC. Kenny Mills (2009 - Brockton, Mass.) notched a brace after Jonathan Cante (2009 - Pawtucket, R.I) opened the scoring for New England in the match.
