New Defensman Packs Hard Shot
March 21, 2003 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss.âTim Schneider, one of the newest additions to the RiverKings team, doesn't have to say anything to make his presence known on the ice. At six feet, two inches and 225 pounds, Schneider is a tower of defensive playing ability.
The RiverKings pulled Schneider from his studies at the University of Wisconsin Superior and straight into intensive training for the CHL playoffs. Schneider brings experience as a member of the Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets 2002 Division III NCAA national championship hockey team, four years of college play total and three years playing Junior A hockey in Lincoln, Neb. in the USHL and Billings, Mont. in the AWHL. This past season Schneider tallied six goals, five assists and 58 PIM.
"As far as what I can bring to the team, I'm strong, I've got a good shot, and I can pass the puck well. I can also skate pretty well," Schneider said. "That always helps. That's an added bonus."
RiverKings head coach Doug Shedden said he feels Schneider is a good addition to the playoff mix.
"He's got a very hard shot," Shedden said. "He's been clocked in college at 97 m.p.h. It's amazing how hard he can shoot it. We will definitely try to take advantage of that."
Schneider said he's excited about the opportunity to play professional hockey so soon.
"I want to learn the ins and outs of pro hockey," Schneider said. "The team is a good bunch of guys. I came in and they made me feel at home."
Schneider is in the process of receiving his bachelor's degree in Business Management and Transportation Logistics Management. His parents Rick and Terri Schneider and sister Beth, 19, live in Devils Lake, N.D. and his brother Craig, 28, lives in Washington, D.C.
