Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (June 23, 2017) - LHP Lewis Thorpe (W, 1-2) picked up his first win of the season by tossing five innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 win for the Fort Myers Miracle (1-1) over the Florida Fire Frogs (1-1).
Thorpe allowed his run in the bottom of the first inning after Ray-Patrick Didder tripled with one out. Austin Riley then drove in Didder with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. From there, Thorpe proceeded to allow just two more hits over his next four scoreless frames.
In the top of the fourth against starter RHP Andres Santiago (L, 0-3), newcomer Jermaine Palacios was hit by a pitch. He then scored from first on a rocket double to center off the bat of Jaylin Davis to tie the game. After Davis moved to third on a groundout, the left fielder scored with two outs on a wild pitch to give Fort Myers a 2-1 lead.
From there, Thorpe and the bullpen slammed the door with little threat from Florida. RHP Tom Hackimer (H, 1) dealt two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. The only threat came in the bottom of the seventh when the Fire Frogs had runners at the corners with one out. Hackimer struck Braxton Davidson looking and induced a groundout of Alay Lago.
LHP Sam Clay (Sv, 4) took care of the eighth and ninth to earn the save.
The Miracle Look to climb over .500 in the second half in game three of their series against Florida with RHP Brady Anderson on the hill. RHP Touki Toussaint tosses for the Fire Frogs with first pitch at 7:05 PM ET.
