Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

Corpus Christi, TX- The Corpus Christi Hammerheads and Team Owner Chad Dittman are proud to announce that the New Era in Hammerheads Football will be spearheaded by none other than the former University of Houston offensive general, Jason McKinley.

Jason McKinley was a commanding leader with his frequent displays of pinpoint precision and was a figure of resiliency as a four year starter at the University of Houston. He became the 29th quarterback in NCAA history to start at least 40 games in a career. He also holds the school's record with 786 completions of 1388 passes, and ranks third in the schools history with 46 touchdown passes. McKinley also racked up 8694 yards passing and 8277 yards in total offense, which places him second all-time in school history just behind Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware.

Besides his incredible college career, McKinley also had an exceptional All-Star and Professional career. Jason showed flashes of his brilliant accuracy when he played in the Blue-Grey All-Star game where he set the record for completions going 27 of 36, and he also played in the Hula Bowl and led all quarterbacks in completions and touchdowns. After the collegiate all-star game success, McKinley then played professional indoor football for two years (AF2, IFL). In 2004, he showed his true potential as an offensive strategist while Offensive Coordinator, Director of Player Personnel, and quarterback for the San Angelo Stampede. He would prove to be the primary force that drove one of the most potent offenses in the Intense Football League.

When asked what he thought about coaching in Corpus Christi and the new arena Jason says, "...with the best owner, and the best venue in the league; I have the opportunity to put a championship team on the field." He's also excited about being the first Hammerhead Coach to play in the American Bank Center. He says, "The city has built an incredible stadium that's a perfect fit for indoor football. The layout is in favor of the spectators view and we hope that everyone will come out and support the team."

As the Hammerheads embark on a season full of firsts, this first time coach has some football knowledge that baffled even the most seasoned of defensive coaches last year and looks to improve a Hammerheads offense that seemed to be missing just one or two pieces to complete the puzzle. The Hammerheads believe they have the right car; they just needed the right driver to take them down victory lane. It promises to be a great season full of hard-hitting in your face action, so strap on your seat belts and hold on, because it's going to be a wild ride.
