Hawgs to hold third tryout

Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Still looking for one or two more "diamonds in the rough," the Daytona Beach Hawgs will conduct a third and final tryout on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Municipal Stadium, 3777 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach.

Head Coach/General Manage Ervin Bryson and Director of Player Personnel Bill Gahagan will be on hand to evaluate the talent as the National Indoor Football League expansion franchise continues its preparation for its inaugural season that begins March 19 on the road against the Lakeland Thunderbolts.

"It's a feeling that both Bill and I have that there's a player out there who could make a difference with this team,'' Bryson said. "We feel it's worth another Saturday morning trying to find it.''

There are currently 46 players on the Hawgs' preseason roster. Twenty-five will make the final cut for the 14-game regular season.

Bryson has announced that NIFL All Star wide receiver Lucas Green, who played him last season at Sioux City (Iowa), will not join the Hawgs this season. Green elected to remain with the Bandits, now a member of the United Indoor Football Association.

"Lucas got a better deal, and this is a business,'' Bryson said. "I wish him well."

Recently added to the Hawgs' roster is wide receiver Erie Williams of Wingate.

The cost to participate is $45 for first-time applicants with a 50 percent discount for those who tried out in either or the previous two workouts. Players are asked to bring appropriate foot wear as all other equipment will be provided.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the first whistle sounding at 9 a.m.
