Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona Beach Hawgs Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson announced today that the National Indoor Football League expansion team's home opener against the New Jersey Xtreme has been moved from Monday, March 28 to Thursday, March 24.
The Xtreme will play three games in Florida in a seven-day period. Rather than the facing the Hawgs two days after meeting the Kissimmee Kreatures, New Jersey will take on Daytona Beach in the opening game of its road trip.
Daytona Beach will be playing just five days after its season opener March 19 at Lakeland. New Jersey also plays on the 19th, hosting the Miami Morays in its season opener in East Rutherford, NJ.
"Yes, it would have been advantageous for us to face New Jersey on the 28th, but that's football,'' Bryson said. "We'll still be ready to play and ready to take it to New Jersey. I'm sure [Kissimmee coach] Marquette Smith will appreciate the help since we'll soften them up... a lot.
"It may not be Monday night, but it's the home opener and it'll be a big event,'' Bryson added.
Kickoff with the Xtreme will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for as low as $12 and are available by calling the Ocean Center at (386) 254-4545.
