Ocean State Waves News Release

WAKEFIELD, R.I. "" Nick Sebastian homered, scored twice and drove in two runs but New Bedford was able to hold on for a rain-shortened 7-5 victory over Ocean State on Tuesday at Old Mountain Field.

The game was played in a steady rain for the final three innings before it was finally called after the end of the seventh inning. The loss is the fourth-straight for the Waves (3-5). The Bay Sox (3-6) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory.

The Bay Sox didn't waste any time getting on the board Tuesday, scoring four runs over the first three innings. In the first, Shea Pierce singled with one out and three-straight two-out walks forced in the first run of the game. In the third, Pierce doubled to start the inning and came around to score on a single from Chris Shaw. Andrew Dundon capped the scoring with a two-run single to left field to push the New Bedford lead to 4-0.

Trailing 5-0 in the fifth, the Waves battled back to score four runs over their next two at-bats. In the fifth, Sebastian walked, moved to second on a balk and scored on a single up the middle from Walker Moses. Pat Quinn and Caden Bailey followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases and Christian Muscarello made it 5-2 with a sac fly to center. In the sixth, Evan Ocello was able to work a two-out walk and Sebastian followed with a two-run home run to dead center field to bring the Waves within a run, 5-4.

New Bedford, however, rallied with two more runs in the top of the seventh to pull further away. A pair of walks put two runners on and Carl Anderson delivered a two-run double to make it 7-4.

Ocean State made one final push in the seventh but could only plate one run. Bailey singled, Muscarello was hit by a pitch and Mike Gerber reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Chris King followed with a sac fly to center field to make it 7-5 but a strikeout ended the inning.

Connor Kelly suffered the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits over 2.2 innings. He walked six and struck out one. Brendon Allen was strong in relief, allowing just one run on two hits over 3.1 innings. Bailey and Muscarello each finished with two hits offensively for the Waves.

Ocean State will now hit the road for three games, beginning on Wednesday when it makes the short trip over to Newport for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
