Bay Sox Walk by Ocean State
June 18, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
The roles were reversed Tuesday night and the Bay Sox looked like a different team at Old Mountain Field as the Ocean State Waves issued all of the walks and tried to attempt the come from behind win.
Waves starting pitcher Connor Kelly (Chandler Gilber CC) lasted 2.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and six walks.
New Bedford's starter John Lieske went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.
New Bedford scored first, in the top of the first, when Shea Pierce (Sam Houston St.) got a 2-out single and Waves starter Kelly walked the next three Bay Sox batters to make it 1-0.
The Bay Sox took an inning off offensively before scoring again in the top of the 3rd. Pierce got it started again with a double just inside the first base line and into right field. Two batters later, Chris Shaw (Boston College) scored Pierce on a single to center. A walk from Kelly loaded the bases and a one out single by Andrew Dundon (Marshall) brought in two more to make it 4-0.
The Bay Sox made it 5-0 in the fifth when Joe Cronin (Boston College) singled in Matt Lopez (San Jose St.) who started the inning off with a double to deep left-center.
The Ocean State Waves got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-2. A Walker Moses (Northwestern) seeing-eye single up the middle scored one, and a Christian Muscarello (Trinity) sac-fly scored another.
The Waves made it close in the sixth with a 2-run homerun off the bat of Nick Sebastian to make it 5-4, but the Bay Sox took the two runs right back in the top of the 7th.
Two Ocean State walks put Lopez and Cronin on first and second. With two outs, Carl Anderson (Bryant) came up with a clutch double up the middle that took a bad hop off the Waves second baseman's glove to make it 7-4.
The Waves added one before the game was called due to weather at the end of the seventh to make it a 7-5 Bay Sox victory.
