NC Courage Sign Danish Forward Mille Gejl Jensen

CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage announce the international signing of forward Mille Gejl Jensen (MEE-luh GUY-el YEN-sen) to a two-year contract through the 2024 season, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). At just 23-years-old, Gejl already has extensive experience on both the Danish National Team and at the club level.

Gejl has become a proven goal-scorer on the national stage, netting seven goals in 23 international caps for Denmark. She scored in three World Cup Qualifiers in 2021 and, most recently, scored a goal in the team's 2-1 win over Brazil in a friendly last June in Copenhagen.

It sounds like a strong, professional environment with the best opportunities to develop and I'm really looking forward to meeting up with the team and getting to play in front of all the fantastic supporters," Gejl said.

"We identified Mille early in the process. She has been tremendous in and around the 18-yard box her entire career and her talent and experience will add great value to our team. She's a young, talented player who is eager to learn and be part of our attacking style. We look forward to welcoming her to North Carolina," said head coach Sean Nahas.

Gejl has also scored 43 goals in 104 club domestic league matches for her career. She's spent the past two seasons with BK Häcken in the Damallsvenskan -- the top division in Sweden -- scoring 16 goals and adding eight assists in 54 matches. She previously played in the top level in Denmark with Brøndby IF, making her debut in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League. She scored one of her biggest goals for the club in a 2-2 draw with Juventus in the round of 16.

"I would describe myself as a creative offensive player with good technical ability and a good vision of the game - I'm always looking to create goal scoring opportunities for myself and my teammates and hopefully that will continue in the United States," Gejl also said.

Gejl becomes the second member of the Danish National Team to join the Courage after fellow forward Rikke Madsen signed with the club last summer. The two helped Denmark break a 16-year absence from the World Cup, qualifying for 2023 and placing in Group D. They begin play on July 22 against China.

The Courage now have 22 players on their roster with training camp less than two weeks away, including six forwards: Tess Boade, Millie Farrow, Gejl, Madsen, Kerolin Nicoli, and Brittany Ratcliffe. Draftees Haley Hopkins and Olivia Wingate will also be invited to preseason camp.
