North Carolina Courage News Release

CARY, NC - Paul Riley, head coach of the North Carolina Courage, has been nominated as one of the 10 coaches in the running to receive the FIFA 2019 Best Women's Coach Award, an award based on a coach's soccer accomplishments during a yearlong span. He is the only NWSL Coach who has been nominated to contend for the title.

In the past year, Riley has seen a great amount of success, leading the Courage through an impressive season that resulted in the team winning the 2018 NWSL Championship, lifting the inaugural Women's International Champions Cup, and being awarded their second consecutive NWSL Shield Award. As a result of the season, he was named as the NWSL Coach of the Year for 2018, an award he also won in 2017.

Riley's success on the pitch didn't just begin during this past season. He is a three-time league champion, one with the Long Island Rough Riders in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division (2002), one with the Western New York Flash in the NWSL (2016), and the last from the Courage. Riley was also named Coach of the Year following the 2011 season with the Philadelphia Independence (runner-ups in the Women's Professional Soccer League).

Visit the FIFA website to vote for Paul Riley as the FIFA 2019 Best Women's Coach. The results will be based on both fan votes and key members of the soccer community. All award winners will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Milan on September 23rd.

The North Carolina Courage return to action at home on Friday, August 2 at 7:00 p.m. to play the Washington Spirit. The Women's International Champions Cup will take place Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park later in the month on August 15 and 18. For tickets and information please visit NCCourage.com.
