NBA D-League Select Returns to Samsung NBA Summer League
July 6, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
NEW YORK - The NBA Development League today announced the 14-man roster that will compete in Samsung NBA Summer League 2016 in Las Vegas. Comprised of top NBA D-League prospects, the team will tip off its seventh campaign in Las Vegas on Friday, July 8 in a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The team will also face the Milwaukee Bucks (July 10, 4:30 p.m. ET) and the Houston Rockets (July 11, 6 p.m. ET) before being seeded in a tournament that tips off on Wednesday, July 13.
Quinn Cook (Canton Charge), the 2015-16 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year, and 2016 NBA D-League Champion Jabril Trawick (Sioux Falls Skyforce) headline the Select Team roster, which includes players from 12 NBA D-League teams. NBA veteran Patrick Christopher (Iowa Energy) and 2016 NBA D-League All-Star Tu Holloway (Texas Legends) are also set to compete for the Select Team in Las Vegas. Additionally, Chinese Basketball Association player and NBA D-League prospect Ge Zhaobao (Shanxi Shongyu) will join the Select Team's roster.
Austin Spurs head coach Ken McDonald will serve as the Select Team's head coach. Dean Cooper (Salt Lake City Stars) and Derrick Alston (Westchester Knicks) will assist McDonald on the sidelines in Las Vegas. McDonald led the Spurs to a 30-20 record last season, the best mark in the Southwest Division.
The Select team owns a 16-15 all-time record at Samsung NBA Summer League. Its appearance in Las Vegas follows the NBA D-League's 15th season, during which an all-time high 68 NBA players were assigned a record 321 times to their NBA D-League affiliate and 32 NBA D-League players earned 42 GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA. At the conclusion of the 2015-16 NBA season, almost 40 percent of players had NBA D-League experience.
