Round Rock Express News Release

For the second straight night, Oswaldo Navarro led the Round Rock past Salt Lake as the Express defeated the Bees 6-2 in Pacific Coast League action Wednesday night at Spring Mobile Park. The Express (14-19) took a two-games-to-none lead in the four-game series. The Bees (15-17) lost consecutive games to the same team and suffered their third straight loss for the first time since April 17.

Navarro, who was 2-for-4 with four RBI in Tuesday's series opener, again went 2-for-4 against in the series' second game. His first-inning, two-run home run set the tone for Round Rock, which won back-to-back games on the road for the first time this season. Chris Shelton added a solo homer to cap a three-run first as the Express led wire to wire.

Meanwhile, Express starter Andy Van Hekken righted his ship after shaky outings in his last two starts. Van Hekken (2-3) allowed two runs, one of which was unearned, on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Gary Majewski worked 1.2 innings and allowed only a walk and a wild pitch with two strikeouts. Casey Daigle worked a perfect ninth with one strikeout. The trio limited Salt Lake to three hits, a season low for the Express staff.

Salt Lake starter Will Smith (0-1), making his first start since a recent promotion from A-Advanced Rancho Cucamonga, took the loss. He surrendered four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Round Rock added a run on two hits in the second. Drew Locke opened the frame with a double and later scored on Jason Bourgeois' two-out RBI single. Bourgeois improved to 7-for-19 (.368) with runners in scoring position and two outs, the best mark on the team.

The Bees got back in the game with an unearned run on a hit and an Express error in the fourth. Hank Conger scored Salt Lake's first run with a one-out, bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Van Hekken exited the game after issuing a one-out walk that put runners at first and second in the seventh. Majewski struck out the first batter he faced before walking Gary Patchett to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Mark Trumbo to score from third, but Majewski induced an inning-ending groundout from Peter Bourjos to quell the threat.

After Majewski hurled a perfect eighth, the Express tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a pair of Salt Lake errors. Yordanny Ramirez plated the first run with an RBI groundout, and Navarro capped his night with a two-out RBI single to center.

Bourgeois was 3-for-5 on the night. Brian Bogusevic, who entered the series as the hottest hitter in the PCL this month, was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and fell to 1-for-10 in the series.

Round Rock and Salt Lake continue the four-game series Thursday with a 7:35 p.m. CDT first pitch at Spring Mobile Park. A pair of southpaws will battle on the mound for the second consecutive game as Wesley Wright (1-0, 2.74 ERA) starts for the Express opposite Daniel Davidson (3-0, 5.46 ERA) for the Bees.
