MEMPHIS, TN - Portland used a late three-run homer to top Memphis 5-3 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
After the Redbirds had claimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs the Beavers stormed back with three runs of their own to reclaim the lead. Eric Munson's three-run homer scored all three runs in the sixth and the Beavers bullpen turned in three perfect innings to seal the victory and snap the âBirds three-game win streak. Mark Hamilton's two-run homer tied the game in the fifth and Jim Rapoport's RBI-single put Memphis on top briefly.
Beavers starter Cesar Carillo earned the win allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. Memphis starter Adam Ottavino took the loss giving up four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Ernesto Frieri nailed down his seventh save of the year striking out the side in the ninth.
The Redbirds and Beavers wrap up their four-game series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Memphis sends Brandon Dickson to the mound with Portland countering with Radhames Liz.
