Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC -- Eric Naud tallied two goals and an assist while linemate Kyle Kidney notched a goal and two assists as the Pee Dee Pride held off the Mississippi Sea Wolves for a 5-4 win Thursday night at the Florence Civic Center.
Mississippi scored the game's first goal just 2:40 into the contest, but the Pride came back to take a 2-1 lead on goals by Kidney and Naud four minutes apart midway though the period. But, the Sea Wolves tied the game at 16:35, making it 2-2 heading to the second period.
The Pride offense came to life in the middle period tallying three times, as Naud scored at 2:58, and Gregg Johnson added a pair of markers at 6:58 and 15:01.
Mississippi pulled within two just 2:46 into the final period as Anothony Battaglia found the back of the net. The Sea Wolves pulled goaltender Matt Underhill for an extra attacker with 1:45 left, and then got another man-up with 33 seconds left on a Jan Vodrazka penaltry. Mississippi capitalized as Jay Legault tallied with 25 seconds left to make it 5-4. The Sea Wolves had a great scoring chance in the closing seconds, but Sebastien Laplante made the save to preserve the win.
The five goals marked the first time the Pride scored more than five goals in a game since a 6-1 win over Louisiana on January 21. The win was also the first for Pride head coach over his former teammate, Mississippi coach Bob Woods. Florio is now 1-4-0 against Woods.
