Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – If Tuesday night was the night to remember for the Victoria Salmon Kings faithful, then Wednesday was certainly the night to forget.

At 17:03 of the first period Fresno Falcons forward Shaun Sutter set up Corey Hessler for the game winning goal. The second period did not start well for the Salmon Kings either, as the Falcons scored back to back powerplay goals from David Brisson and Shaun Sutter. Fresno took the 3-0 lead to the intermission.

If the second period did not start well for the Salmon Kings the third period started down right ugly for both Victoria and Fresno. With the play stopped and the Falcons starting their line change a scrum started in front of the Falcons bench.

The nastiness continued and eventually broke out into an uncontrollable melee that resulted in both benches clearing and a total of approximately 240 minutes in penalties. The only reason there is a question regarding the exact number of penalty minutes given out in the brawl is because the game had already been marked with the bitterness of the rivalry brewing between the two hockey clubs.

Shaun Sutter scored his second goal and third point of the game, after play eventually resumed. The Falcons leave Victoria on Thursday with the much needed two points in their run to the post season, beating the Salmon Kings 4-0.

The Salmon Kings head out on the road for their next two games in Idaho before returning to the Bear Mountain Arena to face the San Diego Gulls on February 22nd and 23rd. Tickets are available for all Salmon Kings home games at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
