ECHL Awards 2006 All-Star Game To Fresno

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Thursday that the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition have been awarded to the Fresno Falcons. The ECHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the selection of Fresno at its Mid-Season meeting in January.
The 14th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and the Skills Competition will be held January 24-25 at Save Mart Center, a 13,800-seat multipurpose facility that opened in the fall of 2003 on the campus of Fresno State University.
"The ECHL is delighted to award the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition to Fresno, California," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. "The All-Star Classic has become the showcase event for the ECHL and continues to grow on an annual basis. The City of Fresno and Save Mart Center provide an outstanding community and venue to host the 2006 event."
"This is truly a great day for the Fresno Falcons organization. It is because of the hard work and dedication of the entire Falcons organization that we have been selected by the ECHL to host the 2006 All-Star Game," said Fresno owner Charles Davenport. "I cannot say enough about how excited I am at the prospect of being able to showcase our organization, Save Mart Center and the City of Fresno during this incredible event.
Televised live for the fourth consecutive year in January, the ECHL All-Star Game was available to more than 30 million homes, including a third straight year on The NHL Network in Canada as well as being shown live on Comcast Charter Sports Southeast and America One Television. The telecast was again offered free of charge to all ECHL teams and was to be carried live in Idaho, Peoria, Pensacola, Reading and San Diego.
The Premiere "AA" Hockey League, the ECHL uses the All-Star Game to showcase some of the top young players in the league, drawing the attention of both the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, whose teams annually send representatives to the game. In addition to the hockey community, visitors from across the continent converge on the host city for the two-day event and accompanying festivities.
