Naturals Take Series with 5-1 Win Saturday

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (14-12) earned a series win with a 5-1 victory over the Wichita Wind Surge (10-16) at Arvest Ballpark on Saturday night. The two teams conclude their series on Sunday with a 2:05 PM CT first pitch.

Anthony Veneziano (4-1, 1.69) earned the win after tossing 6.0 shutout frames, allowing five hits with six strikeouts. The Southpaw got a run in support in the bottom of the third when Tyler Tolbert raked his second of three hits and went to second on an errant pickoff attempt. Peyton Wilson singled, scoring Tolbert to give the Naturals a 1-0 edge.

Parker Bates hit a solo homer in the fifth with one out to extend the lead, but the Wind Surge came within a run in the seventh thanks to DaShawn Keirsey Jr.'s solo home run against Naturals reliever Noah Murdock.

A three-run seventh put the game out of reach while the Naturals cinched up a 5-1 win, locking in a series win a day before its conclusion. It's the first series victory since June of 2022 when the Naturals took four of six against the Tulsa Drillers, and the first home series win since the last of 2021 when the eventual league champions took down the Springfield Cardinals in the regular season finale.
