Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN-The Evansville Otters professional baseball team has announced that RHP Nathan Stone, a native of Fort Branch and graduate of Gibson Southern High School and Eastern Illinois University, has resigned for the 2006 season.

Stone spent 2005 in Evansville, posting the best season of his professional career, compiling a 1-4 record with four saves and a 1.50 ERA in 30 appearances. He was the winning pitcher in the Frontier League All-Star Game. Overall in his three professional seasons, Stone has combined for a 2-5 record with 12 saves and a 1.90 ERA, striking out 89 batters while walking 23 in 94.2 innings.

"We're excited to have Nathan back," said Otters' director of baseball operations Jeff Pohl. "His return will help solidify our bullpen while providing a leadership role for the younger members of the pitching staff."

The Otters sent RHP Ryan Burnau to the Gary Railcats of the Northern League to complete the previous trade that sent Stone to Evansville. In addition, the Railcats formally transferred the contract rights to RHP Luke Adkins to the Otters. Evansville selected Adkins, who spent 2005 with the Ohio Valley Redcoats, in the Frontier League dispersal draft earlier this month. Adkins was a Frontier League All-Star for the Redcoats, posting an 8-8 record and 4.43 ERA.

"Adkins got off to a tremendous start last year (1.88 ERA entering the All-Star Break) and we hope that he can build off of that success," commented Pohl.

The Evansville Otters were voted a Platinum Winner in the Evansville Courier & Press Reader's Choice Awards and Best Sporting Event by the readers of Evansville Living magazine in 2005. The Otters open the 2006 home schedule on Saturday, May 27 against the Gateway Grizzlies.
