Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - The Wild Western Conference is coming to Nashville.
Last week, Major League Soccer announced that Nashville SC will play its inaugural season in the league's Western Conference. That means Nashville is guaranteed to host every club from the West in 2020 during the club's inaugural MLS season. The conference features some marquee clubs that have made big waves in the league in recent years, as well as clubs with special connections to Nashville's players and staff.
Here are some clubs you should look forward to seeing in Nashville in 2020. And remember, the only way to secure your seats to catch all of these matches at Nissan Stadium is by becoming a Season Ticket member. Click here for more information.
Atlanta United FC
Okay, we know Atlanta is in the Eastern Conference, but we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge our opponent for our first-ever match in MLS. Atlanta United FC is coming to Nashville on Feb. 29 for the club's inaugural home opener, and it's going to be a party. Atlanta has become one of MLS' premier clubs in its three seasons in the league, winning MLS Cup in 2018 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2019. The Southern clash in February should have no shortage of star power as Atlanta's dynamic striker Josef Martinez faces off against Nashville SC's new Designated Player in attacking midfielder Hany Mukhtar. Tickets to this history-making match are only available now as part of season ticket packages, so get yours today.
Los Angeles FC
LAFC has taken MLS by storm in its first two years in the league, and now it makes its first trip to Music City in 2020. Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi and the rest of LAFC's dynamic attack will be on full display against Nashville. Last season, the club won the Supporters' Shield while accumulating the most standings points in MLS history (72) and tying the mark for the most team goals in one season in league history (85). In addition, Vela set the single-season individual goal scoring record with 34 goals. LAFC's visit to Nashville next year will be a can't-miss matchup.
Seattle Sounders FC
The defending MLS Cup champions will also pay a visit to Nashville in 2020. The Sounders captured their second MLS Cup title after upsetting LAFC in the Western Conference Final and taking down Toronto FC in the MLS Cup Final in front of a record crowd in Seattle. The club will return the core of players that helped guide them to the title, including USMNT standouts Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan and international products Nicolás Lodeiro and Raúl Ruidiaz. Seattle has qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs in every year it has been in MLS, so it will prove a tough challenge for this new Nashville side.
Colorado Rapids
Nashville's clashes with the Colorado Rapids next season will likely be sentimental for head coach Gary Smith, who coached the Rapids to an MLS Cup title in 2010. The Rapids rebounded from a dismal 2018 season with a 42-point campaign that put them within six points of a playoff spot. Colorado also has some exciting young players that will look to break out in 2020, including U.S. Youth National Team forward Jonathan Lewis and 2019 MLS Rookie of the Year Andre Shinyashiki.
Sporting Kansas City
When Sporting Kansas City comes to town, it will pit Jedi Master against Padawan as Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs will get the chance to face his old club and mentor, SKC technical director and coach Peter Vermes. Jacobs served as an assistant technical director under Vermes in Kansas City from 2015 to 2017. It will also be a reunion for defender Jimmy Medranda and goalkeeper AdrÃÂan Zendejas, who were both acquired from Sporting Kansas City by Nashville during the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft.
