Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE (Nov. 26, 2019) - Nashville Soccer Club announced today the club selected Eric Miller in the Stage One of the 2019 Major League Soccer Re-Entry Draft. Prior to the draft, Nashville SC traded the club's Second Round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for the second overall pick in the 2019 MLS Re-Entry Draft Stage One.
A 26-year old with six years of MLS experience, Miller has appeared in 119 league matches (regular season and playoffs) since beginning his MLS career with the Montreal Impact in 2014.
"Eric is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back line, and who we have watched play at the youth, college, international and professional levels. He strengthens an already experienced group at the back," said Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs.
Miller's time in Montreal saw the fullback reach the Canadian Championship Final both seasons he was with the club, claiming the trophy in 2014. Following the Impact qualifying for the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League season, Miller was able to earn international experience while helping Montreal become the first Canadian side to advance to the tournament's final.
Rated as an attack-minded fullback, Miller was traded to the Colorado Rapids during the 2016 preseason. He became a vital piece in helping the Rapids return to the Western Conference Championship for the first time since current Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith accomplished it in 2010 when he led the Colorado side passed the Conference Championship and into MLS Cup Champions.
A native of Woodbury, Minnesota, Miller was traded to Minnesota United FC in 2018. After one and a half seasons and 24 appearances with the Loons, Miller was traded to New York City FC in the second half of the 2019 MLS season, immediately adding depth to the club. Miller appeared in six matches for Minnesota and five for NYCFC in 2019, helping both sides reach the MLS playoffs.
Internationally, Miller has been called up to the United States U-20 and U-18 Men's National Teams, taking part in the 2013 Toulon Tournament and the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
