October 12, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville SC (12W-10L-10D, 46 pts.) will take on New England Revolution (14W-8L-10D, 52 pts.) at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in a rescheduled match from late August due to the club's participation in Leagues Cup 2023. The Boys in Gold will host the Revs as one of two matches to end the season, including a home Decision Day match on Oct. 21 against the New York Red Bulls.
Nashville SC and New England Revolution have clashed five times in series history, with the Boys in Gold holding a 1W-1L-3D record in that span. Nashville SC has yet to lose to the Revs at home and has yet to host the Revs at GEODIS Park since its opening.
Defense has been key against New England Revolution in the past, with Nashville SC recording three shutouts against them, and only allowing two goals from the Revs in series history.
Defensively this season, Nashville SC has recorded four shutouts in its last seven matches and boasted the fewest goals allowed with only 29 goals in 32 matches (0.91 per game). The Boys in Gold own an 8W-3L-4D record at GEODIS Park and have only conceded 10 goals over the entire 2023 MLS regular season there, averaging only 0.67 goals per match (15 home matches).
The defense is anchored by starting goalkeeper Joe Willis, nominated for MLS Goalkeeper of the year, and defenders Walker Zimmerman and Shaq Moore, both nominated for MLS Defender of the Year. Zimmerman, the two-time reigning MLS Defender of the Year, is on his fourth consecutive nomination, all while with the Boys in Gold.
Earlier today, Head Coach Gary Smith previewed Saturday's match with the media including the status of the team and what it will mean to face former Nashville SC Defender Dave Romney, who has played every minute with the Revolution since his move to the New England side.
