March 8, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Following Thursday night's Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 2-2 draw with Inter Miami CF, the Boys in Gold return to the pitch for MLS play Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. CT to face off against the LA Galaxy. Sunday's match theme is Women's History Month, and tickets are available here.
Here are five things to know for Sunday's match, airing live at 2 p.m. CT on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, Nashville SC's flagship station, 104.5 The Zone's Stream, and SiriusXM.
1. Prior to Thursday's match with Miami, Nashville SC announced the contract extension of 2022 MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar. The German midfielder, who signed with NSC as the club's first designated player for its inaugural MLS season in 2020, is the team's all-time leader in goals, assists, and points, a two-time MLS All Star, and a three-time MLS Best XI selection. The extension runs through 2026 with an option for 2027.
2. When the Boys in Gold face off against the Galaxy on Sunday afternoon, it will be the first time the squads have met since the team was a member of the Western Conference in 2022. The club is 0W-2L-1D all-time against the Galaxy in MLS play, with one match against the California side at GEODIS Park (a 1-1 draw on Sep. 10, 2022).
3. Prior to joining the Boys in Gold via trade with the LA Galaxy this offseason, Nashville SC forward Tyler Boyd played his only prior MLS season in the City of Angels. Last year with the Galaxy, Boyd recorded 13 goal contributions (eight goals, five assists) in 39 appearances (32 starts) across all competitions. He tied for the team lead in MLS goals with seven. Earlier this week, Boyd met with the media to discuss the upcoming match against his former team.
4. Nashville SC's match against the Galaxy continues a busy run of play to begin the 2024 campaign. When the final whistle blows Sunday, the Boys in Gold will have played six matches in 18 days, dating back to Feb. 22 when the team opened its season in the Dominican Republic against Moca FC in the Concacaf Champions Cup (CCC). The team plays again on Wednesday, March 13 at Inter Miami CF in leg two of the CCC Round of 16 and Saturday, March 16 back at GEODIS Park against Charlotte FC in MLS play.
5. Sunday's matinee at GEODIS Park will celebrate Women's History Month. The theme night celebrations will highlight local nonprofit organizations supporting women and raise funds in support of programming and advocacy initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. A Women's History Month commemorative patch designed by local artist Caitlin Mello is available for purchase at the Nashville SC Team Store and online with proceeds benefiting Creative Girls Rock.
