WHEELING, WV- Wednesday night was a new game, but a similar result. The Wheeling Nailers entered the third period trailing the South Carolina Stingrays 1-0, but put together another comeback to take their first lead of the series. Jarrett Burton and Derek Army lit the lamp, lifting the Nailers to a 2-1 victory at WesBanco Arena.

The first two periods were played extremely defensively, as only one goal was scored. The opening stanza went by without a tally, with the two teams each taking just seven shots on net. At the 13:10 mark of the middle frame, the Stingrays eventually broke the deadlock. Caleb Herbert chased down a loose puck behind the net, and fed Austin Fyten, who roofed a shot from just above the right side of the crease.

For the second straight game, the third period featured a Wheeling rally, which turned the decision around. At the 6:36 mark, the Nailers pulled even. Riley Brace entered on the left side of the offensive zone, chipping a pass ahead for Derek Army. Army then threaded a feed of his own to Jarrett Burton, who was going to goal. Burton turned from his forehand to his backhand, trickling a shot just over the right side of the goal line. With 6:26 left, Wheeling went ahead. Army drifted over the left side of the blueline and let a shot fly. The attempt deflected off of Vitek Vanecek's shoulder, then the cross bar, and eventually landed in the cage for a 2-1 score. The Nailers limited the Stingrays to five shots in the final stanza, prevailing with that 2-1 result.

Franky Palazzese got the win in goal for Wheeling, making 18 saves on 19 shots. Vitek Vanecek took the loss for South Carolina, coming up with 29 stops on 31 shots.

The Nailers and Stingrays will play games four and five at WesBanco Arena on Friday and Saturday, with both contests beginning at 7:35. Friday's game is a Frosty Friday, and fans will receive rally towels.
