WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their third player signing of the 2015 offseason. Wheeling has re-signed forward Jarrett Burton to an ECHL contract.

Burton, 24, made his professional debut at the end of the 2013-14 season, appearing in two games with the Nailers, before returning to Wheeling for his rookie campaign in 2014-15. Jarrett's play began to take off in December, as he started that month with points in five of the first six games, including three multi-point efforts, led by three points against Reading on the 14th. The first-year forward added another three-point game against the Royals in February, when he netted his first two-goal game as a pro. For the season, Burton appeared in 52 games, notching 12 goals, 16 assists, and 28 points, finishing seventh on the team in scoring. Jarrett's hard work on and off the ice earned him the Project BEST Player's Player Award, as chosen by his teammates.

"Jarrett is a big time character kid, who had a really good rookie year, making big strides throughout the season," said Nailers Head Coach Clark Donatelli. "He is one of our better face-off guys and penalty killers, who understands his role, is well-liked in the locker room, works extremely hard, and has a lot of detail in his game," he said.

Prior to turning pro, the Echo Bay, Ontario native attended Clarkson University for four years, where he majored in Business, while lacing up the skates for the Golden Knights. During his four seasons at Clarkson, Burton appeared in 141 games, recording 28 goals, 26 assists, and 54 points, reaching the 20-point mark as both a junior and a senior. Jarrett was an ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team member as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and also took home a pair of team awards, winning the Richmond Unsung Hero Award as a junior, and the Fran Negrin Award as a senior, which is presented to the player who displays unselfish play and sportsmanship both on and off of the ice.

"My first year as a Nailer was really exciting, especially with how we finished it off, generating a lot of buzz around the city," Burton said. "Wheeling is an awesome place to play, and one of the big selling points for me to come back was how fun it was to be at the rink every day. I see myself as more of a defensive player, but the coaching staff helped me incorporate more offense into my game, and this coming year, I look forward to taking another step forward into becoming an even better player," he said.

Jarrett Burton and the Nailers will drop the puck on the 2015-16 regular season with a two-game series at Norfolk on October 16th and 17th, before WesBanco Arena opens its doors for a 7:35 game on October 24th against Brampton.
