Nailers Ink Top Player Paul Crowder
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers are pleased to announce Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Paul Crowder.
Crowder, 26, led the Nailers in scoring during the team's deep playoff run last spring posting 15 points (4g, 11a), including a four-point night in a 4-3 overtime victory over Greenville in game seven of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on April 27. Last season, Crowder totaled 24 points (8g, 16a) in 36 games split between Utah and Wheeling. The 6'3", 202-lb forward was acquired by the Nailers in a trade with the Utah Grizzlies on March 1, 2011.
"We are excited to have Paul return to Wheeling this season," said Nailers head coach Stan Drulia. "The trade we made with Utah to acquire Paul was instrumental in where our team went late in the season."
Prior to Wheeling, Crowder registered 26 points (12g, 14a) In 76 appearances with the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL) during the 2009-2010 season. The Victoria, British Columbia native also played 11 games for the Wolfpack in the spring of 2009 totaling three assists. Crowder amassed 80 career points (32g, 48a) with the University of Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-2009.
"Paul's poise and ability to play in every situation gives us the added depth we are looking for," said Drulia. "Paul will be even better this year, knowing the situation and being 100 % healthy right out of the gate. We will rely on his leadership, both on and off the ice this year."
Crowder marks the second major signing for the Nailers in the past week. Wheeling locked up defenseman Kyle Bushee last week. The team is expected to announce more additions to the roster in the near future.
