Peto Re-Signs with Eagles, Bolsters Blue Line

July 27, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today the signing of defenseman Kyle Peto. Peto is the fourth player to sign with the team, all of whom have made the move, along with the club, from the CHL. Peto is the second defenseman to re-sign, joining Aaron Schneekloth, forward Riley Nelson and goaltender Kyle Jones on the Eagles' ECHL roster.

Peto has played two previous seasons in the ECHL, winning a Kelly Cup championship with the Idaho Steelheads in 2006-07 and splitting the 2008-09 season with the Florida Everblades and the Mississippi Sea Wolves, leading the latter's d-men in scoring with 24 points (4-20-24) in 59 games. In 112 total games in the ECHL, Peto has registered 48 points (13-35-48) and 106 PIMs.

The 6-foot, 187-pound defenseman has spent his past two seasons in the CHL, playing for the Corpus Christi Icerays in 2009-10 before joining the Eagles last season. In each of those two seasons, Peto again led his teams' defensive corps in scoring, accumulating 46 points (13-33-46) in 64 games with the Icerays, and 54 points (7-47-54) in 63 games with the Eagles. In 127 games in the CHL, Peto has racked up 99 points (20-79-99) and 95 PIMs.

Peto played in the 2010 CHL All-Star Game, registering three assists and a game-high +4 plus/minus rating. He finished both of his seasons in the CHL as the league's third-highest scoring defenseman, and tied for the league lead among blueliners last year in assists (46). Peto has proven to be especially potent on the power play; of his 99 points the past two seasons, 53 have come on the man advantage (54%).

Prior to turning pro, Peto played four seasons at Minnesota State University (Mankato), tallying 78 points (14-64-78) and 151 PIMs in 111 games.

"Kyle Peto was a top-tier defenseman in the CHL and he's no stranger to success in the ECHL either. He will bring great skill and championship experience to our roster," said Eagles head coach & general manager Chris Stewart. "His defensive abilities are often overshadowed by his offensive and power play numbers, but they should not be understated."

The 2011-12 regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 14, with the Eagles' home-opener taking place on Friday, Oct. 21. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
