WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce a transaction, effective immediately. Wheeling has signed 2011-12 captain Paul Crowder for the upcoming season.

Crowder, 27, began the 2012-13 campaign in Austria, but elected to return to Wheeling, where he has spent parts of the last two seasons. Prior to turning pro, Crowder played three seasons in the BCHL, and also attended the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he majored in mathematics. During his three-year stint with the Seawolves, Paul amassed 32 goals, 48 assists, and 80 points in 107 games, leading him to the AHL at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season. The Victoria, BC native made his professional debut with the Hartford Wolf Pack, going on to play in 90 games over parts of two seasons, recording 12 goals, 17 assists, and 29 points. In the fall of 2010, Crowder joined the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies, where he spent 20 games, before joining the Nailers for their run to the 2011 Eastern Conference Final. In 73 games with Wheeling, Paul has racked up 26 goals, 35 assists, and 61 points. His 23 goals and 50 points last season were both second on the club, trailing only Chris Barton.

"Paul was an enormous part of our hockey team last season, and we are all very grateful that he has chosen to come back for another season with the Nailers," said head coach Clark Donatelli. "He has lots of talent, can play a variety of roles, and is a great character person for the rest of the team to follow," he said.

The Nailers will take the ice for their second and final tilt of the 2012 preseason on Sunday, when they welcome the Cincinnati Cyclones to WesBanco Arena for a 2:00 face-off. Nailers 2012-13 Ticket Packages are on sale now. Packages start at just $7.50 per game. Call 304-234-GOAL or wheelingnailers.com for more information.
