Washington Mystics News Release
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Mystics announced today that they have signed Chinese national team shooting guard Li Meng to a training camp contract.
"Li Meng is the premier scorer for the Chinese national team - an outstanding perimeter player who has the ability to stretch the floor with her excellent 3-point shooting," said General Manager Mike Thibault. "She reads the game and uses screens well and knows how to play off of her teammates. She adds more size, strength and toughness to our guard group. Our players will enjoy playing with her."
28-year-old Meng (6-0, 198) will join the Mystics after averaging 16.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while representing China in the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup last year. Meng's 16.0 points per game was the fourth highest average in the World Cup. She also shot 40.7% from the three-point line.
Meng has averaged 9.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Chinese national team dating back to 2013. She also played professionally for the Shenyang Army Golden Lions in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association from 2012 until the team dissolved in 2018.
The Washington Mystics tip off the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 19 versus the New York Liberty at 7:00 p.m. For information on Mystics Club 52 full season memberships, presented by Ticketmaster, and to secure your seats for the upcoming season, please visit www.washingtonmystics.com.
