Mystics Notes

Open Practice: the Washington Mystics will host an open practice on Tuesday, July 13th from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. at MCI Center. The practice is free to the public.

Basketball and Books: the Mystics will host Girls on the Run Founder, Molly Barker on Friday, July 23rd as she discuss her new book GIRLS ON TRACK: A Parent's Guide to Inspiring Our Daughters to Achieve a Lifetime of Self-Esteem and Respect. The book discussion will take place from 6:00-6:45p.m. Basketball & Books will be followed by the Mystics vs. the Minnesota Lynx at 7:00 p.m. To order your tickets and sign up for the book discussion, contact the Mystics Box Office at 202.661-5100. Back-to-Back: The Washington Mystics are 4-2 in back-to-back games this season. Washington faced Charlotte on May 22nd and fell, 71-68 and traveled to Indiana the next day and defeated the Fever, 68-67. On June 30th Washington traveled to Connecticut and fell to the Sun, 72-63. The Mystics came home on July 1st and won 69-64. Washington took on Seattle on July 7th and won 72-69 and traveled to New York to take on the Liberty on July 8th, for a 71-54 win.

Caution: Milestone Approaching: Chamique Holdsclaw has played 156 career games; she is 130 points away from 3,000 points. She's averaging 20.4 ppg. If she continues at this pace, she will reach 3000 points on July 24th as the Mystics play the Charlotte Sting. Holdsclaw would be the fastest woman to reach this milestone. This season, Katie Smith and Sheryl Swoopes reached it in 166 and 175 games respectively.

She's Number One: Chamique Holdsclaw currently leads the league in a number of categories. Holdsclaw is number one in points per game (20.4), field goal attempts (298), field goal attempts per 40 minutes (20.2) and field goals made (130).

On the Glass: As a team the Mystics have 548 rebounds this season. The Mystics are number two in the league with 385 defensive rebounds. For the sixth time this season the Mystics out-rebounded its opponent. Against Charlotte on June 10th, the Mystics out-rebounded the Sting by 15, the most this season.

And the Winner is...: Washington Mystics players Chamique Holdsclaw and Alana Beard are both nominated for an ESPN ESPY Award. ESPY Awards are given out each year to top performers in the world of sports. Holdsclaw is nominated for Best WNBA Player and Beard is nominated for Best Female College Athlete. Fans can go to ESPN.com and vote for who they feel should take home an award. The ESPY'S will air on July 18th at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN.

Community Corner

On Tuesday, July 14th, Mystics Player Tamecha Jackson will help promote summer reading as she reads to students at Martha Washington Library located at 6614 Fort Hunt Rd., .Alexandria, VA. The event will take at 3:00 p.m.

Coco Miller was selected in the first round (ninth overall) by the Washington Mystics in the 2001 Draft on April 20, 2001.

1. If you were locked in a mall, what store would you shop at first?

Williams & Sonoma

2. Have you ever thought of being a trainer after you retire?

Yes, I plan on opening a personal training facility after I retire.

3. Who is the older twin?

Kelly, by four minutes

4. Which of you got into more trouble?

We both were pretty good kids and were very much alike so I would not say one was worst than the other.

5. Have you and your sister ever played any trick on your teachers?

We never took test for one another, but we did switch desks and classes.

6. Do you think that if you switch teams with your sister, would your teammates notice?

Yes, I think we have settle differences and they would notice the little things.

7. What was your favorite Turkish dish?

Chicken shish-kabob.

8. If you could go on any reality show, which would it be?

Survivor

9. What is the significance behind the number nine?

#35 was all ready taken and nine was my number when I played soccer and soccer is my second best love.
