
Detroit Shock forward Swin Cash named WNBA Player of the Week

NEW YORK, July 12 â Swin Cash of the Detroit Shock was named the WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 5 through Sunday, July 11.
Cash averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 3.50 steals, 1.50 blocks and 36.5 minutes in helping Detroit to a perfect 2-0 record on the week, moving the Shock back over .500 (9-8) within one game of the Eastern Conference lead. Cash is currently ranked in the top 15 in seven statistical categories averaging 17.9 points (6th), 4.2 assists (7th), 1.59 steals (14th), 6.4 rebounds (14th) and 0.82 blocked shots (14th) while connecting on 49.3 percent of her field goal attempts (2nd) in 35.5 minutes per game (3rd). She has scored in double figures in 16 of the Shock's 17 games.
Cash began the week against Houston on July 6 by scoring 19 points, pulling down 11 rebounds and dishing out eight assists while recording a career-high six steals in the Shock's 82-63 victory over the Comets. Cash's second game was on ABC on Saturday afternoon versus the Storm where she finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists making a key steal and basket down the stretch to seal the 70-65 victory over the Storm. In the victory she became the Shock's all-time assist leader (277) passing Dominique Canty (273).
Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte's Allison Feaster, Connecticut's Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Houston's Michelle Snow, Minnesota's Katie Smith, Phoenix's Anna DeForge, Sacramento's Yolanda Griffith and Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw.
Ratings for ABC's and ESPN2's telecasts of WNBA games are up 14 and 13 percent respectively from a year ago. The season-opening telecast featuring the Phoenix Mercury at the Connecticut Sun was the highest rated WNBA game (regular season or playoffs) ever on ABC.
