Mystics Alana Beard named WNBA\'s Player of the Week

Washington, D.C. –Washington Mystics Rookie Alana Beard was named the WNBA's Player of the Week for games played September 7th though September 12th. Beard is the first rookie in over two years to receive this honor. The last rookie to be named Player of the Week was Indiana's Tamika Catchings in 2002.

"There are great players in this league," said Beard. "To be recognized among so many is an honor."

Beard, the Mystics first round pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, shot 53.7 % from the field and averaged 22.3 ppg., 3.00 steals, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the Mystics victories over the Sacramento Monarchs, the New York Liberty and the Houston Comets. She currently leads all Rookies in steals (64) and is ranked second in blocks (29).

The Mystics are currently tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and are one game out of first place with three games left in the regular season.
