Down The Stretch They Come
The Sting have won their last three games and enter the final week of the WNBA season in a tie with Connecticut for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Sting will face the Sun in a battle for the top spot in the conference on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Sting travel to San Antonio to take on the Silver Stars on Friday, September 17 before heading to Detroit, where they will close out the 2004 regular season with a match-up with the Shock on Sunday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m.
Playoff Race
The race for playoff positions in the Eastern Conference is a virtual dead heat. Charlotte and Connecticut are tied in the top spot with 16-15 records. New York is a half game behind with a 15-15 record. Indiana and Washington are each just a game out of first place with 15-16 records while last place Detroit is only a game and a half out of first at 15-17.
Sting Set Record
The Sting set an all-time WNBA record for best start in a game on Saturday, September 11 as they opened the contest outscoring the Lynx 21-0. The previous record was held by the San Antonio Silver Stars who opened their game on August 9, 2003 outscoring the Los Angeles Sparks 18-0.
Staley and Smith-Taylor Shine
In the six games since the Olympic hiatus, Dawn Staley has averaged 7.0 assists per game. During that same stretch, Charlotte Smith-Taylor has averaged 12.3 points for the Sting.
Fandemonium
As a way to say thank you to their fans, the Sting will host Fandemonium on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. as they face the Connecticut Sun. The first 5,000 fans will receive team posters courtesy of The Charlotte Observer. Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to win prizes and other giveaways. At halftime, two fans will a have the chance to win a car as part of the Lake Norman Chrysler 300 Half Court Hot Shot and the loudest section will be able to get Bobcats autographs. Prior to tip-off, fans can participate in a fan fest outside the Coliseum.
